A Day in the Life of Schoolhouse Students

Getting Ready for School

Parents should conduct a short check each morning before their child leaves for school. This screening includes a check for symptoms to ensure the student is healthy to enter the school house. If the student is able attend, ensure they bring a clean face covering to school.

Students should be checked for the following symptoms:

  • Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken mouth;
  • Sore throat;
  • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
  • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

Traveling to School

Students will wear a face covering while riding the school bus. School bus drivers and bus aids will also wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Hand Sanitizing stations are available for students to use upon entering the bus. To reduce bus capacity, students will sit by themselves or with a sibling.

Arrival at School

Students will enter the school house through multiple, monitored, and controlled entrances to encourage social distancing. Students are required to wear face covering upon entry and hand sanitizing stations will be available upon entry. Grab and Go breakfast will be available for students to eat in the cafeteria or classroom depending on how the school site can best accommodate social distancing.

Following Classroom Procedures

Teachers and Students will always wear face coverings in the classrooms during instruction. Hand Sanitizer will be available in each classroom for use as needed. Only a limited set of supplies may be shared during instruction.

Taking Restroom Breaks

Restrooms will be cleaned frequently throughout the day.  Capacity will be limited to two students at one time.

Returning to the Classroom

Students will need to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer anytime they return to their classroom space.

Eating Lunch

All students will continue to access to a healthy, hot meal during the school day. Students will eat their lunch in the cafeteria, classroom or another designated area based on the school site’s ability to implement social distancing. Staggered Seating will be required when students are consuming meals.

Moving Around Campus

School Campuses will be reconfigured for students in directional hallways, when possible. Transitions between classrooms will be limited as much as possible for all grade levels. Hand Sanitizing stations will be available through the campus in high traffic areas.

Experiencing Symptoms While at School

If a student arrives exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, or begins to exhibit symptoms during the day, they will be moved to the school’s designated Isolation Room to wait until they are picked up.

Before and After Care Programs

School Sites will continue to provide before and after care programs in a safe manner. Class sizes will be reduced and students are assigned to pods for the duration of care. Both students and staff will wear face covering.

Participating in Extracurricular Clubs and Athletics

Students will continue to engage in extracurricular clubs and activities through virtual meetings. Student athletes will be screened prior to participation in practice and games.
